PET preform moulds

PET preform mould is a special mould in plastic moulds, there are many considerations in mould design, tooling, machine adjustment. SINO PET preform production lines with more than 20 years'experience, can provide a very good reference.

1. Dispose of PET plastic

PET plastic material has hydrophilia, sensitive to water at high temperatures. When the moisture content exceeds the limit, PET preforms will be embrittled. 

Therefore, PET plastic materials must be dried before production, the drying temperature is 150℃, time of drying should be over 4 hours. If drying temperature is 170℃, time of drying should be 3 to 4 hours. 

2. Mould and sprue design

PET preform mould usually use hot runner system. It will be better to have a thermal baffle between mould and injection molding machine, the thickness of thermal baffle should be around 12mm, can withstand high pressure. To avoid local overheating or fragmentation, exhaust must be adequate, but the depth of the exhaust port is generally not more than 0.03mm. Otherwise, it is easy to produce flashes.

3. Selection of injection molding machine

As PET has a high melting point, and it is stable for a short time after the melting point. Therefore, it is necessary to choose an injection system with more temperature control segments and less self-friction heat generation during plasticizing. Meanwhile, the actual weight of the product should not be less than 2/3 of the machine injection weight.

4. Injection speed

Generally injection speed should be fast, so it can prevent freezing during the injection.

5. Matters need attention

If the mold temperature is not well controlled or the material temperature is not properly controlled, it is easy to produce white fog and opacity. The mold temperature is low and uniform, the cooling speed is fast, the crystallization is less, then the product will be transparent.
